I am Dr Rajalakshmi SJ - Miss Wheelchair India 2014. I am a dental specialist and a consulting orthodontist by profession. I am blessed with two different lives in the same lifetime, one of the abled & other of the differently abled. My journey in a wheelchair began when I was 21 years old due to a road accident leading to spinal cord injury, unsuccessful surgeries & a wheelchair for a lifetime. Being in a wheelchair, I completed a Bachelor’s of dental surgery, took a course in psychology, fashion designing, and Vedic yoga, wheeled the ramp for Orion Fashion Week 2015, and was a gold medalist in a master of dental surgery. I have researched genetics and presented papers & posters at national conventions. I am an assistant professor in a dental college, the proprietor of the dental clinic S J Dental Square & Serve as the chairperson of my organisation S J Foundation which works for the causes of the disabled.
I have won a legal battle for the rights of the disabled in education and organised Miss Wheelchair India 2015. I Conduct free dental health camps at schools, am a peer trainer for wheelchair training programs and participate in wheelchair basketball & wheelchair dance. I have also appeared as a chief guest & a motivational speaker at several events, including Google. My achievements have been appreciated, awarded & felicitated at various forums. I have been rated as one of the bold women in India, Awarded as a positive hero & a woman of substance. My personal interest is interior designing, singing, dancing, painting, and swimming & I have travelled to eleven countries in my wheelchair. I love driving my customised hand-driven car & have mapped various road trips across my state. Currently, I am fighting a legal battle for the rights of the disabled in jobs, organising a national dental workshop, expanding my dental clinic to a second branch, and gearing up for a wheelchair tennis tournament and TEDx talk.
